Despite the best efforts of investigators in the Cold Case Unit and local, state and federal law enforcement officials, sometimes the trail of evidence in a crime “goes cold.”

But that does not mean investigators give up on these cases.

In order to continue to seek justice for the victims of these crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable, the Cold Case Unit, State’s Attorney’s offices, and police continue to investigate these cold cases. The Cold Case Unit works closely with the law enforcement agency that originally began the investigation and the public in seeking new evidence and information that may lead to solving these crimes.

Please review below the Cold Case Unit’s current list of open cases and help law enforcement authorities bring justice for these victims. In some cases, there is reward money available to anyone with information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of perpetrators of these crimes.

Rewards are authorized under Section 54-48 of the General Statutes, which reads:

When any crime punishable by death or imprisonment for more than one year has been committed, the Governor, upon application of the state's attorney for the judicial district in which it has been committed, may offer, publicly, a reward not exceeding fifty thousand dollars, to the person who gives information leading to the arrest and conviction of the guilty person, or, if such guilty person has fled after conviction of a felony in a court of this state, to the person who gives information leading to the arrest and detention of the convicted felon, whether found within the state or elsewhere, which reward shall be paid to the informer by the state, by order of the court before which such conviction is had.
