IMPORTANT NOTICES:

  1. If you have recently finished an exam for Life and/or Accident & Health or Sickness Insurance Producer, DO NOT opt for the FRATERNAL AGENT license category. It's important to note that Fraternal Agent and Insurance Producer are different license types. Please allow 1-2 business days for your exam results to be uploaded to the national database Refunds are not available.
  2. If you solely seek a PRODUCER license, refrain from taking the CERTIFIED INSURANCE CONSULTANT (CIC) license exam. It's crucial to distinguish between the Certified Insurance Consultant and Insurance Producer license types. The CIC exam does not qualify you for a Producer license.

NON-RESIDENTS:

  • Connecticut will grant reciprocity with an equivalent license in your home/resident state.
  • Apply for the license by visiting the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Navigate to the Licensing Center and choose “Apply for a License.”

  • Renewal notices are EMAILED about 90 days before the expiration date.
  • Residents MUST complete their continuing education (CE) requirement BEFORE they will be able to submit the renewal application.
    • Individuals whose CE requirements are not posted as COMPLIANT by the last day of their expiration date will NOT be able to submit the renewal application/fee.
    • If the CE requirements are completed by the license expiration date, and posted by the provider within ten (10) days, producers will be allowed to renew with the $160.00 renewal fee (no late fee).
    • If the CE requirements are completed after the producer’s expiration date, the licensee will be charged the late renewal fee of $320.00.
  • Renew on the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.”
    • Payment Methods: NIPR accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, PayPal, or electronic checks. Note: The Department does not accept cash or paper checks.
    • Updating Contact Information: It is your responsibility to keep your contact information current. Failure to receive a renewal notification does NOT excuse you from renewal obligations. To change or update your email or address, update your information on NIPR. Allow one to two business days for changes to be applied. Note: You cannot update information once you start processing your renewal through NIPR.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

  1. If you are already an Insurance Producer, DO NOT choose the FRATERNAL AGENT license category. Instead, access the "Renew an Existing License" option through NIPR and select the appropriate license type. Refunds are not available.

How to Reinstate a License

  • To reinstate the license for up to one (1) year after expiration date, you will be required to complete the CE requirement (Resident ONLY) and pay a late fee of $160.00, for a total of $320.00. Apply by going to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.”

Expiration Dates:

Individuals – Your license expires on the last day of your birth month. If you are a Resident insurance producer, you also need to complete the full 24 CE credit requirement by that date. For new licensees, this may mean that the first license cycle is not a full two years. For example: If the license was issued on May 10, 2020, and the insurance producer’s last birthday was December 4, 2019, then the expiration date of the license will be December 31, 2021. Once the license renews on December 31, 2021, it will not expire again until December 31, 2023.

Late Renewals:

Individuals – If you do not pay your renewal fee by the expiration date, your license and all appointments will be canceled.

If you are a resident insurance producer and do not pay your renewal fee and complete your CE requirements by your renewal date, your license and all appointments will be canceled.

How to change License information (i.e.: demographics)

Please be reminded that it is your responsibility to keep your contact information current. Failure to receive renewal notices or other important correspondence due to outdated contact information does not excuse you from meeting renewal deadlines or other regulatory requirements. Ensure that your address, phone number, and email are up-to-date to avoid any disruptions in your licensing status.
