• Department of Social Services Office of Child Support Services

  Provides answers to questions about enforcing, changing, or modifying a child support order. Information on the Office of Child Support Services and who is eligible for their services.

• Law in Plain Language: Child Support

  The Attorney General's Office, the Office of Child Support Services and the Support Enforcement Division (Superior Court) participate in actions concerning establishing, enforcing, or modifying support orders when a party is receiving IV-D support enforcement services.

• Employment, Workers Compensation & Labor

  The Employment division of this Section defends all state agencies in all branches of government, including the state Universities, and state officials in employment related litigation and administrative complaints and provides legal advice and guidance to state agencies on employment issues. We are currently defending the state in numerous employment cases in the state and federal courts, as well before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities and the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission The Workers' Compensation division of this Section represents the State Treasurer as the Custodian of the Second Injury Fund program in cases involving potential liability of the Fund for workers' compensation benefits and the Department of Administrative Services in its capacity as the administrator of the state employees' workers' compensation program in contested workers' compensation claims filed by state employees. We are currently defending the Second Injury Fund and the state in numerous workers’ compensation cases before the Workers’ Compensation Commission and in the Connecticut Superior and Appellate Courts. The Labor division of this Section represents various state agencies before administrative bodies such as the Freedom of Information Commission and the Claims Commissioner, and represents the State in Superior Court when administrative appeals are taken from entities such as the Employees’ Review Board and the Employment Security Appeals Division. The Labor division represents the state when arbitral decisions are challenged in court and also represents the Commissioner of Labor in wage and hour collection proceedings involving private sector employers who failed to pay their employees properly. We are currently involved in both defensive and affirmative litigation involving labor matters.

• Environment

  This Section represents the State and the people of Connecticut to ensure that the environment is protected for the benefit of the public health and welfare. This Section provides advice and representation in state and federal administrative and court proceedings to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Department of Agriculture and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station.

• Clean Air Act Cases and Challenges

  This Section has been very active in representing the State of Connecticut in various actions whose goal is to improve and protect Connecticut’s air quality. These actions include lawsuits against major polluters and regulatory challenges to proposed federal rules that, instead of placing stricter controls on air emissions, would allow more pollution.

• Cannabis Notices of Material Change Filing

  The Antitrust Section reviews the Notices of Material Change filed prior to any material change to a cannabis establishment per Conn. Gen. Stat. § 21a-422k.

• The Connecticut Data Privacy Act

  The Privacy and Data Security Department handles matters related to the protection of Connecticut residents' personal information and data. The Department enforces state laws governing notification of data breaches, safeguarding of personal information, and protection of social security numbers and other sensitive information. The Department is also responsible for enforcement of federal laws under which the Attorney General has enforcement authority, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). In addition, this Department provides the Attorney General with advice and counsel on proposed legislation and other matters regarding privacy and data security, and it engages in extensive outreach to citizens and businesses on matters relating to data protection and privacy.

• Reporting a Data Breach

  The Privacy and Data Security Department handles matters related to the protection of Connecticut residents' personal information and data. • Special Litigation

  This Section represents the Governor, the Judicial Branch, the General Assembly, the Secretary of the State, the Treasurer, the Comptroller, the Auditors of Public Accounts, the State Elections Enforcement Commission, the Office of State Ethics, the Citizen's Ethics Advisory Board, the State Properties Review Board, the Judicial Review Council, the Judicial Selection Commission, the Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities, the Board of Accountancy, the Office of the Child Advocate, the Office of the Victim Advocate, the Commission on Women, Children and Seniors, the State of Contracting Standards Board, and the Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission. In addition, through its Public Charities Unit, the Section protects the public interest in gifts, bequests and devises for charitable purposes; and in cooperation with the Department of Consumer Protection, administers and enforces state laws regulating charities and professional fundraisers who solicit from the public.

• General Litigation

  The attorneys in the General Litigation Section defend state agencies, officials and employees in tort, civil rights and other matters, including high exposure personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death claims and lawsuits.

• Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles

  The jurisdiction of the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles includes, but is not limited to, the licensing of motor vehicle operators, the registration of motor vehicles, including emissions testing, motor vehicle dealers and repairers, trucks and school buses.
