Child Page Overview

The Child Page Template is a standard page to add components. It contains a global header, an Agency banner, Agency footer, and a global footer. The content-editing portion of the page allows for different sublayouts and a variety of components to add content and images.

Access the Home Folder

1. Navigate to the Home Folder from Content > Agency Name > Home from the Content Tree.

Create a Child Page

1. Right-click on the Home item.

2. Insert the Child Page option.

3. Name the Child Page title.

The Child Page will generate in the Content Area, automatically locked (checked out) and ready to edit. The content tree will display an _resources folder under the Page’s title where components can be inserted.

4. Select the Save Save icon icon (top left in the Content Editor Ribbon).

Edit the Page Properties

1. Open the page in the Content Editor.

2. Scroll to the Metadata section in the Content Area and modify the Meta Data.
a. The Meta Title field automatically populates with the name of the Landing Page.
i. This field displays in the web browser tab and is used by search engines.
ii. Modify this field to improve search engine optimization (SEO).
b. The Meta Description and Meta Keywords can also be filled out to improve SEO better but are not primarily used search algorithms to improve ranking.

Child Page _resources folder

1. Navigate to the _resources within the page from Content > Agency Name > Home > Child Page > _resources from the Content Tree.

2. Right-click on the _resources and choose Insert > Component Folder

3. Insert the Component Folder option.

4. Right-click on the Component Folder and choose Insert > Component Name Here

NOTE: Depending upon the component folder you selected, it can contain one or more type of components to choose from.

Child Page in Experience Editor

When viewing the newly created page in the Experience Editor, you will see an empty page. You can insert sublayouts into one of the placeholders. Each placeholder spans the entire page width.

Edit the Page in Experience Editor

1. Select the Experience Editor icon in the Sitecore dashboard. Select the Child page.

2. From the Experience Editor, select the ‘Edit’ icon in the ribbon to ensure the page is ready to be edited.

3. Choose one of the empty grey placeholders to insert a sublayout into and select the Add here button.

4. Select the sublayout container you want to use.

b. 9-3 sublayout
c. 8-4 sublayout
d. 6-6 sublayout
e. 4-4-4 sublayout
f. 3-3-3-3 sublayout
g. 3-9 sublayout
h. 4-8 sublayout
i. Dynamic Grid

Note: Refer to the specific placeholder document for details on each sublayout use.

5. Select the sublayout you just inserted, then select the Add here button to see what components are available to add.

6. Select the Save Save icon icon (top left in the Content Editor Ribbon).

7. Preview the Page.

8. Publish the page when ready.

TIP: It is easier to create and populate the needed components in the Content Editor first before adding them to the page in the Experience Editor.
