Left Navigation Overview
The Left Navigation is a component that displays navigation at two levels. This component is designed for the 2-Column Left-Rail page. The component contains a navigation menu title and links. The component is comprised of the Left Navigation Link List and Left Navigation Link Item, which are created through the Content Editor.

Access the Left Navigation Folder
There are two ways to access the Left Nav Folder. You can access it on a website level within the global Content Modules folder item or on a page level within the local _resources folder.
Content Modules (Global for Website)
- Navigate to the Left Nav Folder from Content > Agency Name > Content Modules > Left Nav Folder from the Content Tree.
OR
_resources ("Local" under the individual page)
- Navigate to the _resources Folder from Content > Agency Name > Home > 2 Column Left-Rail Page > _resources folder.
- Right-click on the _resources folder.
- Insert the Left Nav Links Folder option, if not already inserted.
- Name the Left Nav Links Folder.
The Left Nav Links Folder will generate in the Content Area, automatically locked (checked out) and ready to edit. The content tree will display the folder under the Page’s title where the Left Nav List and Left Nav Items can be inserted.
5. Select the Save icon (top left in the Content Editor Ribbon).
Create the Left Navigation Link List
- Navigate to the Left Nav Folder you’ve created.
- Right-click on the Left Nav Folder and choose Insert > Left Nav Link List.
- Name the Left Nav Link List.
- Repeat Steps 1-3 to create additional Left Nav Link Lists.
Create the Left Navigation Link Item
- Navigate to the Left Nav Link List Item.
- Right-click on the Left Nav Link List Item you’ve created and choose Insert > Left Nav Link Item. Note: You can create as many Left Nav Link Items as needed.
- Name the Left Nav Link Item.
- Repeat Steps 1-3 to create additional Left Nav Link Items.
Edit the Left Navigation Link Item in Content Editor
- Access the Left Nav Link Item through the Content Tree.
- Scroll to the Data section in the Content Area.
- Title: Type in the title of the Left Navigation Link Item.
- Link: Insert a link for the Left Navigation Link Item.
a. Select the ‘Insert link’ to link to a page in Sitecore.
b. Select ‘Insert media link’ to link to a document file in Sitecore.
c. Select the ‘Insert external link’ to link to an off-site website. - For internal Sitecore links, select the page you want to link to. Enter the CTA title in the ‘Description’ field.
- Select the Save icon (top left in the Content Editor Ribbon).
- Publish the item when ready.
Edit the Left Navigation Link List in Content Editor
- Access the Left Nav Link List through the Content Tree.
- Scroll to the Data section in the Content Area.
- Left Nav Link List: Select the items that will appear on the Left Navigation component.
a. Double-click on one of the Left Nav Link Items within the All column to add it to the component.
b. Double-click on the one of the items within the Selected column to remove it from the component.
c. Click on Select all to move all the items within the All column to the Selected column.
d. Click on Deselect all to move all the items within the Selected column to the All column. - Title: Type in the title of the Left Navigation Link List.
- Select the Save icon (top left in the Content Editor Ribbon).
- Publish the item.
Add the Left Navigation through the Experience Editor
- From the Experience Editor, insert a sublayout into the Left Rail section on the 2 Column Left Rail Page.|}Example

- Choose one of the grey placeholders in the Left Rail section then select the Add here button.
- Choose the LeftNav sublayout container and click Select.
- Select the Left Navigation Link List item and click OK.
Tip: It can save time but creating the Left Navigation items in the Content Editor before adding the component to the page through the Experience Editor. - Select the Save icon (top left in the Content Editor Ribbon).
- Preview the Page.
- Publish the page when ready.
