What is coordination of benefits?

Coordination of benefits (COB) is the process insurance companies use to determine how to cover your medical expenses when you're covered by more than one insurance plan.

Most health plans have a COB provision that allows families with two wage earners covered by health benefit plans to receive up to 100% coverage for medical services. COB rules determine which plan is primary for you, your spouse, and your dependent children.
