What is COBRA?

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives workers and their families the right to stay on their group health plan for a limited time under certain circumstances. Examples include:

  • Voluntary or involuntary job loss
  • Reduced work hours
  • Transitioning between jobs
  • Death of the insured
  • Divorce from the insured

Qualified individuals may be required to pay the entire premium for coverage up to 102% of the cost to the plan.
