The Emergency Food Assistance Program

Eligibility

To be eligible for TEFAP, you must:

  1. Be a CT resident
  2. Have income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
  3. Provide an address and the number of people in your household

You will not be required to:

  1. Show your ID
  2. Prove if you are a CT resident or a US Citizen
  3. Prove your income
  4. Prove whether you receive other benefits or the amount of benefits you receive
  5. Prove you live in a certain city, town, or neighborhood
  6. Prove the number of people in your household, provide birth dates, or show birth certificates
  7. Provide social security numbers for yourself or anyone in your family

Please note: You are eligible for TEFAP with no proof required if you get meals at an emergency shelter or soup kitchen. You are also eligible to receive TEFAP if your household participates in any of the following programs:

  • SNAP
  • WIC
  • TANF/TFA
  • HUSKY/Medicaid
  • State Administered General Assistance (SAGA)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Energy Assistance
  • Section 8

We do not directly administer TEFAP.
