NOTICE:

Connecticut passed new legislation requiring DSS to spread out SNAP benefit issuance dates throughout the month rather than concentrating them in the first few days. Read up on the changes that start March 1.

DSS benefits have changed due to the federal budget reconciliation bill (H.R.1). Find out how it will impact you on our website, which answers questions about work requirements and exemptions for SNAP and HUSKY (Medicaid).

The Emergency Food Assistance Program

TEFAP

If you are low income and live in Connecticut, TEFAP can help. TEFAP is a federal program that provides you food to supplement your diet at no cost.

How does TEFAP work?

The United States Department of Agriculture buys food in bulk and ships it to CT for distribution. We partner with CT Foodshare to provide healthy food to pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens.

TEFAP offers more than 130 nutritious foods, including:

  • fruits and vegetables,
  • eggs,
  • meat,
  • poultry,
  • fish,
  • nuts,
  • milk and cheese,
  • whole-grain and enriched grain products, including rice, cereal, and pasta.
