How can I get a marriage license or certificate?

Article
Read time: 6 minutes

If you are getting married in Connecticut, you’ll need to get a marriage license from the vital records office of the town where the marriage will take place. There is a $50.00 fee for each marriage license. Find your local town vital records office.

Once you’re married, you’ll file your marriage license with that same vital records office. After it’s filed, your marriage license will be referred to as a marriage certificate.

Need a certified copy of your marriage certificate?

To get a certified copy of a marriage certificate, you must submit your request to one of the following:

  • The vital records office of the town where the marriage occurred
  • The town(s) where the parties to the marriage resided at the time of the marriage
  • The State Vital Records Office
