Department of Public Health (DPH) Legal Office
The Department of Public Health Legal Office is led by the Agency Legal Director. It has three units:
- Office of Legal Services
- Public Health Hearing Office
- Professional Licensure Compliance Office
Office of Legal Services
Attorneys in this unit give legal advice and counsel to the Commissioner and DPH staff. They also represent DPH before state agencies, including the Freedom of Information Commission.
Public Health Hearing Office
This unit holds hearings for different public health issues, such as complaints about healthcare professionals and appeals of local health department orders. Attorneys in this unit serve as hearing officers and provide legal support to most professional licensing boards. The staff members within the unit also support the professional licensing boards.
Professional Licensure Compliance Office
Attorneys in this unit handle administrative prosecution of disciplinary complaints against licensed healthcare professionals, facilities, and licensed or certified environmental professionals.
