Nighttime Closure of Exit 35 Former U-Turn, Route 8 and 73 in Waterbury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing exit 35 will need to be closed starting Sunday, May 19 through Friday, May 24, 2024. Motorists are advised that the Route 8 northbound Exit 35 exit ramp and the Route 73 entrance ramp to Route 8 southbound, will be closed nightly from 10:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., beginning Sunday, May 19, 2024, through Friday, May 24, 2024.  These nighttime closures are required for milling and paving associated with the restoration of Exit 35.  

The project consists of the rehabilitation of numerous bridges located within the Route 8 and I-84 Interchange (DOT Project No. 151-326/151-312/151-313) and was awarded to Walsh Construction Company at a cost of $152,960,945.27 on April 18, 2018.

Route 8 Northbound, Exit 35 Detour

To Route 73: Motorists are advised to take Exit 37 off Route 8 Northbound. Take a left at the end of the exit ramp onto Echo Lake Road (Rt. 262). The Route 8 Southbound entrance ramp will be on the left.

 

Route 8 Southbound Entrance Ramp from Route 73 Detour

Motorists are advised to take a left onto E. Aurora Street at the intersection of Route 8 Southbound on-ramp and E. Aurora Street. Follow E. Aurora Street (turns into Huntingdon Avenue) and the Route 8 Southbound entrance ramp will be on the right.

Please note that the start of this closure can change at any time based on weather or resources.
