Bridge Replacement 06887 over Shady Brook in East Haddam

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that complete bridge replacement of Bridge No. 06887 will occur during a complete road closure during the summer of 2022.

The project consists of full replacement of Bridge No. 06887, which currently consists of two (2) asphalt-coated corrugated metal pipes. The new bridge will consist of a 12’ x 8’ precast concrete box culvert measuring approximately 126.5’ long, new concrete headwalls, endwalls and wingwalls atop spread footings at the inlet and outlet.

Other details of the project include, realignment of the culvert and natural streambed to improve flow through the area, a new 600’ pedestrian sidewalk along Route 151 adjacent to the Town Hall, and replacement of various catch basins to assist with drainage. General roadway improvements will occur as part of this project as well.

Relocation of overhead utilities will be required and will occur prior to the road closure.  This utility work will occur during the remaining winter months of 2022.

DOT Project No. 0040-0144 was awarded to Dayton Construction Company at a cost of $2,164,922.50 on November 10, 2021. Construction is tentatively slated to begin on April 1, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed October 31, 2022. This project is administered by the Office of Construction – District 2, Norwich.
