The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the replacement of Bridge 06695 which carries Ruote 123 (Smith Ridge Road) over Rose Brook in New Canaan.
The project is located about 1.1 miles north of the intersection of Route 123 (Smith Ridge Road) and Route 106 (Silvermine Road). The project footprint is approximately 200 feet in length as measured along Route 123. Preliminary work activities including vegetation management and silt fence installation are currently underway.
The majority of the construction activities to replace the structure will require a 21-day closure and detour of Route 123 at the project location, with traffic being diverted onto town roads. The Detour is TENTATIVELY scheduled to begin on October 12, 2020, and will end on November 1, 2020. An additional press release will be issued prior to the scheduled detour.
Due to noise restrictions, the contractor may only perform construction activities from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM for the entire project duration.
B ridge 06695 was constructed in 1962, as a 72-inch asphalt corrugated metal pipe (ACCMP) which is exhibiting areas of severe rust and delamination. It will be replaced with a 9-foot by 9-foot concrete box culvert with two feet of natural channel bottom material. The existing concrete headwall, endwall and wingwalls will be removed and replaced in kind.
DOT Project no. 0089-0128 was awarded to FGB Construction Company at a cost of $968,271.00 on May 29th, 2020, and is scheduled to be completed November 21, 2020.
Tentative Detour information:
Route 123 –from Canoe Hill Road to Silvermine Road will be closed for 21 days and vehicular traffic will be detoured onto town roads, from October 12, 2020, to November 1, 2020. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Silvemine Road and southbound traffic will be detoured to Canoe Hill Road.
There will be directional signs installed to guide motorists through the detour.
During non-douter timeframes, motorists can expect single lane closures and alternating one-way traffic on Route 123 between the hours 9 AM and 3 PM until the expected contract completion date of November 21, 2020.
