The Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is developing plans for the replacement of the motor fueling facility on the site of the existing Department’s garage at 239 Miller Avenue in Meriden. The purpose of this project is to upgrade the storage tanks to comply with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s regulations.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share their concerns with the Department to assist in the project's development. If there is adequate interest, an informational meeting will be conducted. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
This project involves the replacement of the motor fuel underground storage tanks with aboveground storage tanks for diesel, diesel exhaust fluid, and unleaded fuel; removal of the fuel oil underground storage tank; and the conversion of the facility to natural gas. The new aboveground storage tanks will be protected with bollards. This project will also include the replacement of the motor fuel island with dispensers installed adjacent to the tanks.
The present schedule indicates that final design plans will be available in October 2020. The project will be state funded.
