Branch Activity

Section 36a-145 of the Connecticut General Statutes requires that each application for a branch, or for a limited branch at which loans will be made, be accompanied by a plan detailing how adequate services to meet the banking needs of all community residents will be provided. Plans are submitted when such applications are filed and are available for public inspection and comment at this Department for a period of 30 days. NEW BANK ACTIVITY

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 36a-70 of the Connecticut General Statutes, on May 28, 1999, an application was filed by the organizers of West Hartford Bank & Trust for the establishment of a bank and trust company in West Hartford, Connecticut. The organizers are Robert J. Birnbaum, Gary S. Greenberg, Michael V. Gualtieri, Ronald D. Jarvis, Paul A. Lewis, Joyce D. Mandell, Arthur W. Noll, Richard Rubenstein, Joan L. Rusconi, and Robert A. CREDIT UNION ACTIVITY

Pursuant to the provisions of subsections (g) and (h) of Section 36a-437 of the Connecticut General Statutes, on May 20, 1999, The Norwalk Hospital Credit Union, Inc., filed an application to amend its certificate of organization and bylaws to expand its field of membership to include employees of healthcare related employers in the towns of Westport, Weston, Wilton, Redding, Ridgefield, New Canaan and Darien.

ORGANIZATION OF HOLDING COMPANY

On May 26, 1999, pursuant to Section 36a-181 of the Connecticut General Statutes, American Bank of Connecticut, a capital stock Connecticut bank, filed an application for approval to organize a bank holding company, American Financial Bancorp, Inc., as a Connecticut stock corporation. Pursuant to an Agreement and Plan of Reorganization filed with the application, American Financial Bancorp, Inc. would acquire all the common stock of American Bank of Connecticut. In connection with the application, American Bank of Connecticut has filed a community reinvestment plan which is available for public inspection and comment at the Department of Banking for a period of 30 days.

SECTION 36a-425 APPROVALS

On May 26, 1999, approval was granted to FMR Corp., a Massachusetts corporation, to establish an office of its subsidiaries, Fidelity Brokerage Services, Inc., and Strategic Advisers, Inc. d/b/a Fidelity Personal Advisory Services, both Massachusetts corporations, at 48 West Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, Connecticut.

On May 26, 1999, approval was granted to First American Corporation, a Tennessee corporation, to establish offices of its subsidiaries, INVEST Financial Corporation, a Delaware corporation, and INVEST Financial Corporation Insurance Agency Inc. of Connecticut, a Connecticut corporation, at Main & Bissell Street, Lakeville; 13 North Street, Litchfield; 707 Connecticut Avenue, Norwalk; and 29 South Main Street, West Hartford, Connecticut.
