This bulletin constitutes the only official notification you will receive from this office concerning any of the following applications. Any observations you may have are solicited. Any comments should be in writing to John P. Burke, Banking Commissioner, at the Connecticut Department of Banking, 260 Constitution Plaza, Hartford, CT 06103-1800 or via E-mail to john.burke@ct.gov. Written comments will be considered only if they are received within ten days from the date of this bulletin.

Branch Activity
Section 36a-145 of the Connecticut General Statutes requires that each application for a branch, or for a limited branch at which loans will be made, be accompanied by a plan detailing how adequate services to meet the banking needs of all community residents will be provided. Plans are submitted when such applications are filed and are available for public inspection and comment at this Department for a period of 30 days. Questions concerning branch activity should be directed to the Bank Examination Division, (860) 240-8180.

On September 18, 1998, Lafayette American Bank, Bridgeport, applied to relocate branches at 1699 Highland Avenue, Cheshire, Connecticut, and 3300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, Connecticut. The filing of these applications was noticed in Bulletin #1804 for the week ending September 18, 1998. Subsequently, Lafayette American Bank withdrew the applications and, on October 2, 1998, notified the banking commissioner that, pursuant to Section 36a-145(f) of the Connecticut General Statutes, these two branches would be closed. | |||

AMENDED ORDER FOR HEARING
The hearing previously scheduled for October 14, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 50 of the Department of Banking, 260 Constitution Plaza, Hartford, Connecticut, on the application of The Apple Valley Bank & Trust Company, Cheshire, has been rescheduled to November 9, 1998 at 10:00 a.m.
NEW BANK ACTIVITY
Pursuant to Section 36a-70 of the Connecticut General Statutes, on October 1, 1998, a final certificate of authority was issued to the organizers of Bank of Westport, Westport. The bank commenced business on October 1, 1998 at 180 Post Road East, Westport, Connecticut, phone (203) 227-5800, fax (203) 226-2622.
CHECK CASHING SERVICE ACTIVITY
Pursuant to Section 36a-581 of the Connecticut General Statutes, on September 28, 1998, a license was issued to Ganesh Associates, LLC to operate a check cashing service general facility at 314 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut.
