(HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today the Beverage Container Recycling (a.k.a. Bottle Bill) Grant Program opportunities. "Toward the Virtual Elimination of Mercury from the Solid Waste Stream" was submitted to the Governor and State legislature in response to Public Act 99-228. The report provides recommendations for reducing mercury in solid waste including eliminating mercury from school science labs, requiring manufacturers to provide for the collection and recycling of their mercury containing products, and using household hazardous waste programs to collect elemental mercury from homes.
