Upcoming Continuing Education Opportunities

Who needs to get continuing education credits?

All Commercial Pesticide Supervisors (any category), and all Private Applicators are required to get 12 credits of continuing education per category per renewal cycle (5 years) as part of their renewal. If a person holds multiple categories, they need at least 12 separate credits per category. Core credits cannot count towards multiple categories (eg. If you have 3 core credits they count for 3 total credits, NOT 3 per category). A certification will not be renewed unless an individual has all of the credit requirements.

Reciprocal Credits- We will accept credits from another state, they have to be approved for pesticide credits in that state and be approved for the category in which you want to use them.

  • 12 credits are required PER category for each time you are renewing. These need to be obtained before your expiration date.

Pre-exam Courses
  • Arborist (3D)- This class is 13 weeks (3 hours 1x per week)and is offered 2x a year. Starting in January, and September

Junior Operator

Re-certification Training

The new requirements under FIFRA can be done by showing the video “pesticide Safety Training for Non-certified Applicators” which can be found at the link below.  A certified supervisor or someone that has obtained a PERC Train-the-Trainer certificate must be present during the training to answer questions.

The trainer must also maintain a record of the training described below.

    • Records of training are required to include;
      • The Operator’s printed name and signature
      • The Operator certification number and issuing state
      • The expiration date of the Operator certification
      • The date the training requirement was met
      • The name of the person providing the training
      • Title or description of the training provided

This training is required prior to allowing the individual to handle pesticides and must be repeated annually.

There is also a study manual and instructions available on our website (link below) for those preparing to take the exam to obtain Jr. Operator certification.

Commercial Junior Operator Certification (ct.gov)

There is no requirement to obtain our permission prior to conducting training for those preparing to take the exam.

Course Providers

If you looking to submit courses for approval please email deep.pesticideprogram@ct.gov with the following information at least a month before the date of your course. Course approvals typically take 7-14 days:

  • Course name, date, location and description
  • Course provider
  • Outline of the day including name, duration, description, speaker, and speaker bio for each talk (we need a description for each talk that highlights how this pertains to our program)
  • If the course is online or in person
  • If the course is one time, or recurring
  • If the course is online and recurring please provide us with access to the course so we can review it
  • If the course is open to the public or not, if it is please include the best way for someone to sign up for it
  • What category(ies) are you seeking credit in
