Where can I learn more about the Cultural District program?
Where can I find a general overview, standards and criteria, and how to qualify for the State’s investment?
Review the web pages that provide details about this program and how to apply for official recognition and qualify for state investment. Also contact your Designated Regional Service Organization to discuss your plans and receive feedback.
Is my town/city ready to form a Cultural District?
Cities and towns should assess their readiness to establish a Cultural District.
- Confirm if your city or town is eligible by reviewing state standards and criteria.
- Assess the inventory and location of cultural assets in your municipality.
- Determine if you have a walkable district with a concentration of cultural assets.
- Contact your Designated Regional Service Organization to discuss your plans and receive feedback.
What do you mean by walkable?
While there is no set size definition of walkability, cultural districts:
- Should be a reasonable size for most visitors
- Should have safe ways for pedestrians to travel around the district
- Should not be completely bisected by an unsafe area for pedestrians, such as an area without sidewalks, lighting, and well-marked crosswalks
I think we’re ready. How do we apply?
Submit a letter of intent to your Designated Regional Service Organization (DRSO). The DRSO will walk you through the process and answer questions to help you apply.
