How will our cultural district application be evaluated?

Your Designated Regional Service Organization and the COA will review your application. COA then coordinates a visit to you and your municipality with the DRSO and representatives from CT’s Office of Tourism, State Historic Preservation Office, Marketing, and sometimes others. For cultural districts outside the state we invite representatives from CT Humanities, CT Main Street, and others who can serve as a resource.

During our visit, we will:

  • Meet with the chief elected official and/or designee and/or other relevant municipal employees
  • Go on a walking tour of the proposed cultural district
  • Meet with your cultural district commission/committee members and appropriate stakeholders to hear about the goals, objectives, and plans for the cultural district

When we complete their review, we will email the findings and decision to your municipality’s primary contacts. We will also notify your city or town by email. Final decisions are made by DECD’s CT Office of the Arts.
