Who can nominate a poet for State Poet Laureate?
Any Connecticut resident may nominate one eligible poet who embodies the characteristics of the Poet Laureate role. Please note that people cannot nominate themselves and we do not give this award posthumously.
A Poet should:
- Have at least five years of work history as a poet, both writing original poems and reading their poetry at public events.
- Have a significant body of poetry
- Be comfortable participating in and organizing public poetry readings
How do I nominate a poet for State Poet Laureate?
We are currently accepting nominations for the next Connecticut State Poet Laureate!
Nomination Deadline: March 15, 2025
Nominators, please complete our online CT State Poet Laureate nomination form.
Our online nomination form asks for the following information.You cannot save and exit the form. Please be ready to complete the entire form in one session and submit it.
Required information:
- Your name, email address, and complete address (street, municipality, state, ZIP code)
- Contact information for the nominee:
- Name
- Municipality
- State (must be CT)
- Email address
- Phone number (optional)
- Please describe your relationship to this nominee (relative, fan, professional, etc.)
- Why is this individual uniquely qualified to serve Connecticut in this capacity.
- Briefly share how and why this poet has inspired you.
