A Contractor of Record is a contractor who holds a license and is employed by a company on a full-time, regular basis. This individual serves as the responsible party to ensure the company’s full compliance with all applicable occupational laws and regulations.
Notification to DCP
Both the company and the Contractor of Record are required to notify the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP), in writing, that the contractor is employed on a full-time, regular basis and that their license is affiliated with the business.
The notification can be sent via mail or email (DCP.occupationalprofessional@ct.gov) and must include the following:
• The company's letterhead
• Clearly display the license number of the Contractor of Record
• Signed by a responsible representative of the business and the Contractor of Record
Upon renewal, the business name of the employer must appear on the Contractor of Record’s license.
Termination or Separation
The Contractor of Record is responsible for notifying DCP immediately in the event of termination or separation from the employing company. Likewise, the company must cease all operations immediately upon separation of the Contractor of Record if no other qualified Contractor of Record is available at the time of separation.
Note: Contractors must clearly display their state license number on all business vehicles, advertisements, bid proposals, contracts, and invoices. Failure to display a license number may result in fines.
