Welcome to the website of the Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Bridgeport.
The State's Attorney's office is responsible for the prosecution of all criminal offenses which occur in the Judicial District, which includes the communities of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull.
The Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Bridgeport office located at Bridgeport Superior Court prosecutes the more serious cases, mostly those crimes classified under state law as class A or class B felony offenses, from all communities in the Judicial District.
The Geographical Area office, located at the "Part B" Superior Court in Bridgeport, primarily prosecutes cases involving crimes classified under state law as class C, class D or class E felony offenses as well as all misdemeanor offenses and infractions, including motor vehicle offenses.
State’s Attorney Joseph T. Corradino
Joseph T. Corradino is the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Bridgeport, which covers six towns and cities in eastern Fairfield County, including the City of Bridgeport. He was appointed by the Connecticut Criminal Justice Commission effective May 1, 2020, and as such serves as the chief law enforcement officer of the judicial district.
State's Attorney Corradino joined the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice in 1990 and since 1992 has been serving the greater Bridgeport area. Prior to his appointment as State’s Attorney, he focused primarily on trial work, including approximately 90 jury trials, prosecuting several significant homicides and three death penalty cases. He has also argued appeals before the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Courts. He was admitted to the bar in 1988 upon earning his juris doctor from the Catholic University of America, where he was chosen for the Law Review but resigned to work in a small criminal defense firm, and later, the United States Sentencing Commission. He was an associate at a Hartford law firm before joining the Division of Criminal Justice. He also has served as an adjunct professor at the law school and college level and has been an instructor for legal, law enforcement, and medical continuing educational programs.
State's Attorney Corradino has been involved in numerous civic activities, including serving as co-chair of the New Haven Charter Revision Commission in 2002, secretary (2007) and chairman (2008-2013) of the Connecticut Board of Firearms Permit Examiners, and member of the Connecticut Governmental Accountability Commission (2011-2012). He currently serves on the Branford Board of Ethics. Mr. Corradino has served as an election official, justice of the peace, and in numerous leadership roles in Greater New Haven parochial grammar schools, Notre Dame High School, Sacred Heart Academy, and a local Boy Scout Troop. He is involved as a community mentor with Shepherds, Inc., which empowers inner-city Connecticut teens to build a foundation for success by providing a college preparatory education at a private high school, academic and life skills programs, and positive influence and support. In 2021 he assisted in the foundation of the Covenant School of Bridgeport to provide free private education for Bridgeport boys in grades 5 through 8 who qualify for the federal free lunch program and serves as the secretary of the school corporation.
In 2007, Mothers Against Drunk Driving presented him with their Judge Philip E. Mancini Award. He is the first Italian-American to serve as the Fairfield State’s Attorney since the first recorded appointee in 1711. In 2019, he was presented with the Columbus Leadership Award by the Council of Italian-American Societies of Greater Bridgeport and is a member of the Bridgeport Area Italian Cultural Organization (BACIO).
State's Attorney Corradino served in the Connecticut Army National Guard from 2002 to 2019, retiring with the rank of major. His military awards include the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal, and the Connecticut Medal of Merit.
He is also a certified Police Instructor for the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST). He is an alumnus of Notre Dame High School in West Haven and earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Providence College in 1985. He is also a graduate of the Judge Advocate General School’s Basic and Advanced Courses, and the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute’s Equal Opportunity Advisor Course.
State’s Attorney Corradino chairs the Division of Criminal Justice Management Committee and serves on its Legislative Committee.
