All positions for Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney are open to attorneys admitted to the Bar of the State of Connecticut and any student of an accredited law school who is within five months of graduation from such law school and who is a certified legal intern pursuant to the rules of the Connecticut Superior Court. Any such law school candidate may apply, and subject to appointment by the Criminal Justice Commission, shall advance to Deputy Assistant State's Attorney upon gaining admission to the Bar of the State of Connecticut within one year of the date of graduation from law school. 

Applicants invited to interview for Deputy Assistant State's Attorney positions will be required to submit additional application materials, including but not limited to, law school transcripts, resumes and writing samples. In accordance with Public Act 23-55, any law school student as described above may apply for the Deputy Assistant State's Attorneys positions in the same manner as those attorneys admitted to the bar. Applications are accepted for advertised positions only as found on the State of Connecticut Executive Branch Jobs Website.

Applications are screened by the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District for which the opening exists. If the opening is in one of the bureaus in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, applications are screened by the Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney for that bureau and the Deputy Chief State's Attorney for Operations. The Criminal Justice Commission will interview the candidates submitted for consideration and has the sole authority to appoint (hire) a Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney.

The appointment of all employees of the Division of Criminal Justice is subject to the completion of a criminal background check. It also should be noted that pursuant to Connecticut state law, prosecutors are prohibited from the private practice of law while employed by the Division of Criminal Justice.
