We wanted to update you about an important security measure we're implementing due to a rise in fraud attempts. Specifically, there has been an uptick in fraudulent activity associated with requests to change direct deposit accounts to “Green Dot Bank.” There are currently around 80 employees/retirees who use this Green Dot Bank legitimately.
As a result, agencies are now being asked to verbally verify with their employees whenever a request to change a direct deposit account to Green Dot Bank is received. This extra step will help ensure that these requests are legitimate and protect everyone from potential fraud.
