Statement of Connecticut Insurance Department

“In the face of the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, the Connecticut Insurance Department under the leadership of Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz will continue to ensure every Connecticut citizen has access to safe and appropriate health care.
This U.S. Supreme Court Decision overturning Roe v. Wade does not affect your insurance coverage and does not change Connecticut law that allows for an abortion. Abortions are still legal in the state of Connecticut.
Given the fact that abortions continue to be legal in Connecticut, if you have abortion coverage as part of your health insurance plan, abortion insurance coverage will be maintained.”
The Connecticut Insurance Department regulates fully insured plans only. Some employers, especially large ones, sponsor self-funded health plans that are regulated by the U.S. Department of Labor. Consumers should know that there are some differences among plans and policyholders should contact their insurer or employer to get additional information on important details such as coverage for an abortion.
