The Master Schedule
A master schedule that prioritizes evidence-aligned literacy ensures that the amount of time devoted to instruction supports both the CT-approved K-3 reading curriculum model or program and the district plan. Additionally, it creates consistency among classes within a grade level and among schools. Specialists’ and students’ time is maximized. For example, assigning different intervention blocks to the various grade levels in a school gives reading specialists dedicated time to work with students throughout the day. For the students, it safeguards consistent time for tiered instruction without interfering with Tier One, to which all are entitled.

“I collaborated with all five K-4 elementary principals and reading consultants to review the instructional hours in our program. Together, we established the minutes and hours that each school would consistently implement with fidelity. After reaching this agreement, I involved our project implementation lead from Wit and Wisdom to consult with their team. Subsequently, I met with the reading consultants to discuss how coaching and intervention would be structured with the new program and curriculum. We collectively decided that transitioning from a pull-out model to a push-in model would benefit more students, and we aimed to increase real-time coaching for teachers during instruction.”
