Consistent Monitoring
Consistent monitoring is important to ensure that the collaborative system is running effectively and the literacy plan is improving student outcomes. Structures to gauge progress and promote reflection include data team meetings and professional learning communities. The use of a CT-approved K-3 universal screening reading assessment yields data that inform the plan as well. Walkthroughs are another useful tool to measure progress, not just for administrators but for all educators in a school or district. When part of a supportive, collaborative professional culture that is focused on student outcomes, developing a routine of ongoing visits to classrooms has a profound effect on growth and achievement. They elevate and increase the use of high-impact, evidence-aligned instructional practices, heighten consistency between classrooms, and inspire commitment and comradery among staff.
How can our leadership team build a common language and understanding around literacy practices?
