Title: | NICS Interface - Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Convictions | ||
Summary: | To
reduce the probability/potentiality of gun violence in domestic violence
cases, the Connecticut Judicial Branch, Superior Court Operations Division
will initiate a project: (1) to design and implement a system of transmitting
information on misdemeanor domestic violence offenders to the National
Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), and (2) to develop an
electronic communications system for state firearms regulatory officials to
notify the courts when a defendant who is subject to a protective order has
failed to properly surrender his firearms. To enable the reporting of the domestic violence misdemeanor convictions (including all disposition types), the following work activities would be carried out: (1) This Judicial Branch database of criminal history records will be reprogrammed to properly identify misdemeanor domestic violence arrests and convictions, and to transmit such information to POR; (2) This Judicial Branch database of active and terminated protective orders will be reprogrammed to receive conviction information from the CRMVS, properly identify qualifying misdemeanor convictions and the offender’s relationship to the victim, then transmit the offender identification and address information to NICS when applicable. POR will also be reprogrammed to receive revocation status information from the SLFU, and to display such information for various criminal justice agencies; |
