Gov. Malloy Announces $61.5 Million to Support Affordable Housing Development in Diverse Communities
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein, and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) Executive Director Karl Kilduff today announced that the State of Connecticut will award more than $61.5 million in grants and loans to help create, rehabilitate, or expand 24 housing developments in 20 towns and cities across the state. The investments will create or rehabilitate 978 homes.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has filed an appeal with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in connection with the May 15 tornadoes and storms that heavily impacted parts of Connecticut, requesting that the denial of individual assistance for homeowners in New Haven and Fairfield Counties be reversed. The Governor also filed an appeal over the denial of public assistance and individual assistance on behalf of the towns of Bridgewater, New Milford, and Roxbury, all of which are located in Litchfield County and sustained significant damage from the storms.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy delivered the keynote address today at the inaugural graduation ceremony for the Wesleyan University Center for Prison Education (CPE), a program that allows students to enroll in a variety of courses and earn an associate degree from Middlesex Community College (MxCC). The ceremony, held at Cheshire Correctional Institution, saw the conferral of degrees to 18 inmates who are currently housed at the prison.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Statewide Text-to-911 Capability
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has launched a new Text-to-911 capability as part of the state’s new Next Generation 9-1-1 Emergency Telecommunications System. Text-to-911 provides residents with the ability to send a text message to 9-1-1 from a handheld device in emergency situations when it is either unsafe or they are unable to place a voice call. The system, which is available statewide, is now in effect.
