Gov. Malloy: Trump Deserves No Praise

(HARTFORD, CT) — Governor Dannel P. Malloy today issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s executive order reversing his own administration’s policy to separate migrant children from their families:

“The president deserves no credit for reversing a cruel and heartless policy of his own making—especially when thousands of children remain separated from their parents. As I said earlier today, these kids must be reunited with their families immediately. I call on President Trump to release details straightaway for precisely how and when children will be returned to their families.

“While this executive order will no longer forcibly separate children from their families, it does seek to incarcerate them indefinitely. This course of action is likewise completely unacceptable and an affront to basic human decency.

“Along with the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, the administration's decision to steal babies and toddlers from the arms of their parents, and now to jail these young children indefinitely as a tactical ploy for negotiations will be remembered as one of the darkest moments in our nation's history. President Trump and his enablers are nothing short of child abusers.”
