Governor Lamont: A Bigger Table, Open Door, and Creative Solutions Enabled us to Advance a Better Deal to Keep Millstone Open for Another Decade
Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz today were invited by executives and employees from Dominion Energy to visit the Millstone nuclear facility in Waterford to celebrate an agreement reached by Dominion and the state’s two electric utilities last month to keep the facility open for another decade. The shutdown of the plant would have exposed the New England region to a nearly 25 percent increase in carbon emissions, increased risk of rolling blackouts, billions of dollars in power replacement costs, and the loss of more than 1,500 well-paying jobs right here in Connecticut.

Governor Lamont: “State Government Needs to Be Faster and More Efficient”
Governor Ned Lamont and Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Commissioner Josh Geballe today announced a series of items to reduce bureaucracy, streamline procurement, and ultimately make it easier for businesses to work with the state. Included in the items is a bill currently pending in the legislature that will eliminate thousands of unnecessary forms processed by DAS annually. The announcement was made during a tour of Infoshred, a document shredding facility in East Windsor.

Governor Lamont Proclaims ‘Husky Weekend’ in Connecticut to Honor the UConn Women’s Basketball Team
Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is proclaiming Friday, April 5, through Sunday, April 7, 2019 as “Husky Weekend” in the State of Connecticut in recognition of the UConn women’s basketball team playing in the NCAA Final Four tournament. This will be the team’s twelfth consecutive appearance in the Final Four.

State of Connecticut Partners With Dalio Philanthropies to Strengthen Public Education and Promote Greater Economic Opportunity
Ray and Barbara Dalio of Dalio Philanthropies today joined Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, First Lady Annie Lamont, leaders in the General Assembly, students and other stakeholders to announce the launch of a partnership strengthening public education and promoting greater economic opportunity in Connecticut. Through Connecticut’s leadership and the support of Dalio Philanthropies, the partnership seeks to raise $300 million over five years: $100 million from the State of Connecticut that will be matched by $100 million from Dalio Philanthropies and another $100 million from other philanthropists and business leaders.

Governor Lamont and Lt. Governor Bysiewicz Urge General Assembly to Adopt Legislation Clarifying That Childcare Is a Legitimate Campaign Expense
In response to a decision today by the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) stating that candidates in Connecticut cannot utilize the Citizens Election Program (CEP) to cover childcare costs when running for office, Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz are urging the General Assembly to adopt legislation affirming in statute that childcare costs are a permitted campaign expenditure under the program.

Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Inc. (CERC) co-chairs Indra Nooyi and Jim Smith today announced that Jim Loree, president and CEO of Stanley Black & Decker, and Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Sr., associate dean at Yale School of Management, are joining the board of CERC, a nonprofit corporation that seeks to foster business formation, recruitment, and growth in Connecticut.

Governor Lamont Announces New Statewide Efforts to Confront Opioid Addiction and Save Lives
Governor Ned Lamont, the Department of Public Health (DPH), and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) today announced new coordinated efforts to confront and prevent the increase in opioid addiction across the State of Connecticut. During a news conference at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, state agency commissioners, doctors, first responders, the General Assembly’s insurance and public health chairs, and persons in recovery joined the governor to launch the “LiveLOUD – Live Life with Opioid Use Disorder” statewide awareness campaign, as well as the new Naloxone and Overdose Response (NORA) smartphone app.

Governor Lamont: Shared Services Puts Money Back Into the Classroom Where It Belongs
Governor Ned Lamont today met with local town officials at the Region 4 Collaborative Preschool located at the Essex Elementary School where a preschool program between the towns of Chester, Deep River, and Essex has been operating for more than 20 years and has resulted in a significant cost reduction for taxpayers while directing more of those resources toward the classroom, leading to better outcomes for students. Town officials explained to the governor that while their communities were able to collaborate on the preschool program, state rules are preventing them from replicating the model with programs for grades K-12.

Governor Lamont: Our Classrooms Should Reflect the World We Live In
Governor Ned Lamont today held an event at Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport to highlight a legislative proposal he introduced to recruit more teachers of color into classrooms throughout Connecticut. Joined by leaders in the education field, administrators, teachers and hundreds of students, the governor discussed his goal to increase the number of teachers of color in the state by expanding mortgage assistance and student loan forgiveness, and enhanced reciprocity agreements with other states.
