Governor Lamont: Shared Services Puts Money Back Into the Classroom Where It Belongs
Governor Ned Lamont today met with local town officials at the Region 4 Collaborative Preschool located at the Essex Elementary School where a preschool program between the towns of Chester, Deep River, and Essex has been operating for more than 20 years and has resulted in a significant cost reduction for taxpayers while directing more of those resources toward the classroom, leading to better outcomes for students. Town officials explained to the governor that while their communities were able to collaborate on the preschool program, state rules are preventing them from replicating the model with programs for grades K-12.

Governor Lamont: Our Classrooms Should Reflect the World We Live In
Governor Ned Lamont today held an event at Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport to highlight a legislative proposal he introduced to recruit more teachers of color into classrooms throughout Connecticut. Joined by leaders in the education field, administrators, teachers and hundreds of students, the governor discussed his goal to increase the number of teachers of color in the state by expanding mortgage assistance and student loan forgiveness, and enhanced reciprocity agreements with other states.

Governor Lamont Announces Leaner Agenda for His First Meeting as Chairman of the State Bond Commission
Governor Ned Lamont, who serves as chairman of the state Bond Commission, today released the agenda for the first meeting of the group that will be held since he was sworn into office as governor earlier this year. As part of the “debt diet” initiative he announced last month to reduce long-term debt service payments and save state taxpayer dollars, the items to be considered at the April 2 meeting represent a reduction in bonding by more than 65 percent as compared to bonding during the same time-period in prior years.

Governor Ned Lamont today announced that State of Connecticut flags should return to full-staff at sunset on the evening of Friday, March 22, 2019. Flags have been flying at half-staff across the state in honor of State Representative Ezequiel Santiago, who passed away on March 15.

Governor Lamont Applauds Momentum for Supporting Working Families as Paid Family and Medical Leave Bill Is Approved in Committee
Governor Ned Lamont is applauding the General Assembly’s labor committee for voting today to approve legislation he introduced that will establish a paid family and medical leave program in the state. The concept is gaining momentum, the governor said, because people understand that workers shouldn’t need to struggle with a choice between their jobs and their health, a new child, or a difficult family situation.

Governor Lamont and Congressional Delegation Announce $5.8 Million Federal Grant to Support Connecticut’s Efforts Against the Opioid Crisis

Governor Lamont Amends Education Proposal on Shared Services; Encourages School Collaboration and Reallocation of Resources to the Classroom
Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is submitting revised language to the General Assembly on his proposal encouraging shared services in Connecticut schools. The new proposal, which was developed in collaboration with stakeholders, addresses concerns raised by members of the community while continuing to encourage collaboration and shared services among schools. The governor said that he agrees with many constituents who do not want their school districts to be forced to consolidate operations and is hopeful that the modifications to his proposal address those concerns.

Governor Lamont Encourages NCAA Tournament Fans to Use Hartford Line as Special Late Night Service Is Being Added
Governor Ned Lamont today recommended that fans who are planning to attend the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 21 and Saturday, March 23 at the XL Center in Hartford should consider using the Hartford Line to travel to the games. Earlier today, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced that special late night service will be added to the rail line each evening to accommodate fans returning home after the last game ends.
