Governor’s Council on Women and Girls

When Governor Lamont took office in January 2019, one of his first actions was to form the Governor's Council on Women and Girls.

The Governor's Council on Women and Girls takes to heart the responsibility it has to the future of the State of Connecticut. Its goal is to tackle issues that impact the lives of women, girls, and their families.

Supporting women’s and girls' growth

The Council is led by the Office of the Governor and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. It brings together leaders from state agencies, community organizations, and the private sector to improve outcomes for women and girls statewide.

The Council focuses on:

Expanding access to education and STEAM fields
Improving health and safety
Increasing economic opportunity and workplace equity
Growing leadership opportunities in government, business, and community organizations

Looking to the future in STEM and manufacturing

There has been progress in the number of women in STEM and manufacturing fields. But a majority of those jobs continue to be held by males. In states across the country, leaders work hard to ensure equal access to resources. We are dedicated to give women and girls the opportunities they deserve.

Commitment to STEM

Our programs in Science, Technology and Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics (STEM) ensure that all students have access to an innovative curriculum and become lifelong learners.
Recruiting women and girls for manufacturing

Recruiting resources are available through our Office of Manufacturing to help diversify the pipeline.
Lt. Governor's Computing Challenge

The Lt. Governor's Computing Challenge is a statewide coding competition for Connecticut students.
