Resources for Connecticut Veteran Farmers

CT Chapter of the Farmer Veteran Coalition:

Homegrown by Heroes

Homegrown by Heroes is a program for Connecticut producers who are also veterans. The program allows veteran members to add the Homegrown by Heroes logo to their CT Grown farm products so that consumers can easily identify it and support veteran-owned businesses. Displaying the logo on CT Grown farm products invites consumers to ask about the logo, providing an opportunity for the veteran to share their story and build a lasting connection with their customers. Homegrown by Heroes brand awareness is growing rapidly. Your products will be associated with a unique and honorable brand, giving you a competitive advantage.

If you are a member of the Farmer Veteran Coalition of Connecticut interested in using the merged mark of Homegrown by Heroes and CT Grown logos, please fill out and submit the following information to obtain the files here.

USDA Resources for Veteran Farmers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is committed to assisting military veterans through various programs for beginning farmers and ranchers, as demonstrated by the Department's Office of Advocacy and Outreach (OAO) Information for Veterans.
USDA's veterans website serves as a one-stop navigator for veterans looking to learn more about employment, education, and entrepreneurship on or beyond the farm.

  • USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) provides farm loan programs to help veterans purchase farmland, buy equipment, and make repairs and upgrades.
  • The FSA Microloan program, which offers smaller amounts of support to meet the needs of small or niche-type farm operations, has also grown in popularity among veterans.
  • FSA provides services to veteran farmers and ranchers through its Minority and Socially Disadvantaged Farmers Assistance program.
