Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Rocky Neck State Park is also closed until further notice due to a brush fire. Please note that today's forest fire danger report remains at a 'very high' or 'extreme' level. Every year EVConnecticut and CHEAPR presents the EV Champion Award to those auto dealers or manufacturers that made a significant contribution to the promotion of Electric Vehicles in Connecticut.

2022 CHEAPR EV Champion Award

2022 EV Champion Award

A1 Toyota in New Haven Connecticut was awarded the 2022 Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) Electric Vehicle Champion Award for selling and leasing more electric vehicles (EVs) than any other Connecticut dealer under the CHEAPR program in the last year.

A1 Toyota sold 108 electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to Connecticut residents utilizing the CHEAPR incentive from October 1, 2021 through September 29, 2022. A1 Toyota received the first ever EV Champion Award in 2014. Toyota's Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime are two of the most popular models in the program.

The CHEAPR program offers rebates of up to $2,250 for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease a new eligible battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Qualifying low and moderate income residents may be eligible for up to $2,000 in additional rebates for new or $3,000 for used vehicles if they qualify.

In the last year Connecticut residents received 1,022 rebates for new and used EVs through the CHEAPR program and Connecticut has seen EV sales increase to nearly 9% of all new vehicle sales.

2019 CHEAPR EV Champion Award

2019 EV Champion Award

Stamford Hyundai was awarded the 2019 Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) Electric Vehicle Champion Award for selling more electric vehicles (EVs) than any other Connecticut dealer under the CHEAPR program.

Stamford Hyundai sold 25 electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to Connecticut residents utilizing the CHEAPR incentive from January 1, 2019 through October 14, 2019. Sales were bolstered by the fully electric Hyundai Kona, a four door crossover SUV with an all-electric range of 258 miles.

The CHEAPR program offers rebates of up to $5,000 for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease a new eligible battery electric, fuel cell electric, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

2018 CHEAPR EV Champion Award

Honda of Westport
2018 EV Champion Award

Honda of Westport was awarded the 2018 Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) Electric Vehicle Champion Award for selling more electric vehicles (EVs) than any other Connecticut dealer under the CHEAPR program.

Honda of Westport sold 74 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs) to Connecticut residents utilizing the CHEAPR incentive from January 1, 2018 through October 15, 2018. The Honda Clarity is a four door sedan with an all-electric range of 47 miles and a total range of 340 miles.

The CHEAPR program offers rebates of up to $5,000 for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease a new eligible battery electric, fuel cell electric, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

The Chevrolet Bolt and The Chevrolet Dealers of Connecticut were awarded the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) Electric Vehicle Champion Award for the 2017 CHEAPR EV of the Year. Carter Chevrolet received the 2017 EV Champion Award for selling the most EVs that qualified for incentives under CHEAPR during the time period.

From January 1, 2017 through November 1, 2017, 213 Chevy Bolts qualified for the CHEAPR rebate. During this time period, one out of every five EVs sold in CT were Chevy Bolts. The all-electric Chevy Bolt, which was also named 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year, has an EPA estimated range of 238 miles and offers the freedom to drive anywhere

The CHEAPR program provides a cash rebate for residents, businesses, and municipalities who purchase or lease a battery electric, fuel cell, or plug-in hybrid vehicle. Fuel cell powered EVs receive the largest rebate of $5,000, while plug-in hybrid and full battery electric EVs receive incentives ranging from $500 to $3,000, based on EPA estimated all-electric range of the vehicle.

2016 CHEAPR EV of the Year Award

2016 CHEAPR EV of the Year Award

The Chevrolet Volt and The Chevrolet Dealers of Connecticut were awarded the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) Electric Vehicle Champion Award for the 2016 CHEAPR EV of the Year.

Since the launch of CHEAPR in May 2015, 327 Volts have received rebates - nearly double that of the second place EV. The second generation Volt has a 53-mile rated electric-only range. Nearly 90 percent of all trips can be made solely on electricity as the average driver travels no more than 40 miles per day.

"With a total range of up to 420 miles, the Volt offers the freedom to drive anywhere," Megan Scranton, Dealer Principle of Scranton Motors in Vernon, said. "Chevy continues to innovate, and we will soon see the new Chevy Bolt, recently named 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year with a 238-mile all-electric range, on show room floors in Connecticut."

Stevens Ford was awarded the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) Electric Vehicle Champion Award for selling more electric vehicles (EVs) than any other dealer in the state under the CHEAPR program.

The CHEAPR program offers rebates of up to $5,000 for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease a new eligible battery electric, fuel cell electric, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

Stevens Ford, located in Milford Connecticut, put 56 EVs on Connecticut's roads since May 2015. “Stevens Ford has seized the initiative and is taking every opportunity to inform its customers of the advantages offed by EVs,” said James Fleming, President of the Connecticut Automobile Retailers Association (CARA). “Their ability to dramatically increase the sale or lease of EVs shows that Connecticut residents are ready to be part of the shift to cleaner and more efficient vehicles for the future.”

The Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) Electric Vehicle Champion Award recognizes licensed Connecticut new car dealers and manufacturers who have demonstrated outstanding promotion of electric vehicles in Connecticut. The CHEAPR program offers rebates of up to $5,000 for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease a new eligible battery electric, fuel cell electric, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

This award publicly recognizes the one new car dealership that sold/leased the highest number of new EVs under the CHEAPR program during the award period and the manufacturer who sold/leased the highest number of new EVs under the CHEAPR program during the award period.

To recognize the leadership and good work of licensed Connecticut new car dealers who are so critical to putting Connecticut on the road to a cleaner, cheaper and more reliable energy future, DEEP and the Connecticut Automotive Retailers Association (CARA) have created a joint recognition program - Connecticut REVolutionary Dealer Award.

The award publicly recognizes two Connecticut auto retailers - the one that sells/leases the highest number of new EVs and new plug-in hybrids and a second who sells/leases the most as a percentage of total sales during the defined award period.

DEEP and CARA presented the awards on September 18, 2014 at an award ceremony in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford as part of EV Day at the Capitol 2014.
