Where can artists and the arts community get legal advice?

The Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts program provides legal services, advice, and education to artists, creative entrepreneurs, performing groups, and arts organizations throughout Connecticut. We partner with the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston to provide this service.

What does a volunteer lawyer for the arts (VLA) do?
  • They can help you address legal and business issues.
  • They can connect you with lawyers who provide pro bono and reduced-fee legal services to qualifying people and organizations.
  • They are always on the lookout for attorneys who are committed to the arts and who specialize in matters that are relevant to arts professionals.
  • They provide workshops and seminars for the arts and culture sector.

The lawyers provide these and other services:
  • Contract negotiation
  • Copyright and Trademark
  • Nonprofit incorporation services
  • Real estate, landlord, and tenant
  • Wills, trusts, and estate planning

They do not provide services for criminal matters.

Please email VLA@artsandbusinesscouncil.org to request legal support or if you are an attorney and licensed to practice law in Connecticut, then reach out to explore volunteer opportunities.
