FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(New Britain, CT) — Brian Preleski, State’s Attorney of the Judicial District of New Britain, announced today that Larry Lopez, 45, of New Britain, was sentenced to a total effective sentence of 14 (fourteen) years to serve followed by 10 (ten) years of special parole. Lopez was sentenced on October 5, 2021 by the Honorable Maureen Keegan in New Britain Superior Court.
Lopez pleaded guilty to two counts of Assault in the First Degree and one count of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree in connection with a robbery attempt at the New Britain KFC on November 2, 2018 in which two employees were seriously injured by Lopez. Lopez also pleaded guilty to Robbery in First Degree in connection with a the robbery of a New Britain liquor store that occurred later that same day. After his release from prison, Lopez will be required to register with the weapons registry and is prohibited from having any contact with the victims.
Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Helen McLellan said, “The New Britain Police conducted an exemplary investigation which resulted in the identification and apprehension of Mr. Lopez very soon after the commission of these offenses.”
This case was investigated by the New Britain Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Evelyn Rojas and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Helen McLellan of the New Britain Judicial District.
