Jury Convicts Manchester Man of Sexually Assaulting Minor

10/04/2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, CT) - Sharmese L. Walcott, Hartford State’s Attorney, announced today that on September 27, 2022, Robert Nichols, age 43, of Manchester, was found guilty by a Superior Court jury of two counts of Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-73a (a)1A, and Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).

The jury trial was presided over by the Honorable Judge Michael J. Gustafson.  Following pronouncement of the verdict, Nichols was taken into custody by Judicial Marshals after his bond was set at $500,000.  Sentencing is scheduled before Judge Gustafson on November 29, 2022.

According to trial testimony, the victim disclosed that at the age of 11, he met the defendant at an afterschool program that Nichols ran at the M.D. Fox Elementary School in Hartford during the school year of 2009 and 2010.  Nichols offered for the victim to stay at his home during the summer to help his mother with disciplining the child. The defendant both physically and sexually assaulted the victim during his stay.

State’s Attorney Walcott would like to commend Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Michael W. Riley for his hard work prosecuting the case along with Inspector Luis Rodriguez.
