Judge Sentences Carlton Henderson to 70 Years in Prison For 2019 Murder of Brandia Irvin in Stonington

(New London, CT) – Paul J. Narducci, New London State’s Attorney, announced that the Honorable Shari A. Murphy today sentenced Carlton Henderson, age 47, of Pawcatuck, to 70 years in prison for the 2019 murder of Brandia Irvin, age 41, in Stonington.
A jury in New London Superior Court on June 2, 2023 found Henderson guilty of the crime of Murder in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a and Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(1).
According to evidence introduced at trial, members of the Stonington Police Department on November 30, 2019 were dispatched to a residence in Pawcatuck and, upon arrival, found the victim on the ground suffering from multiple injuries to her head and neck. The victim’s juvenile son was present as the defendant stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife. The defendant fled the scene as the police arrived but was later apprehended in Norwich on December 5, 2019. The victim succumbed to her injuries on December 6, 2019.
“Although the conviction of Mr. Henderson can never replace the life that he took or the trauma that he caused, this office hopes that this sentence will bring some peace to the family of Ms. Irvin,” State’s Attorney Narducci said.
This case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorneys Christa L. Baker and Sarah Steere, with the assistance of Inspector Robert Pickett. The Stonington Police Department was the lead law enforcement agency. Connecticut State Police’s Eastern District Major Crime Squad, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Division of Scientific Services and the Norwich Police Department also assisted.
