FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Hartford, CT) - Sharmese L. Walcott, Hartford State’s Attorney, today announced that a jury in Hartford Superior Court on September 20, 2023, found Asbel Rivera, age 46, of East Hartford, guilty of the crimes of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2), three counts of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(1), Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-73a(a)1A, and three counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2). The Honorable Nuala E. Droney presided over the trial.
According to evidence introduced at trial, Rivera had sexually assaulted a minor multiple times between the years of 2011 and 2018. The victim later disclosed the sexual assaults to a boyfriend and her boyfriend’s mother, who helped the victim report the sexual assaults to police.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Robin D. Krawczyk with the assistance of Inspector Joseph Buyak.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 14, 2023 in Hartford Superior Court.
