New Britain State’s Attorney Announces $50,000 Reward to Help Identify Killer of Kelsey Mazzamaro

9/20/2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Burlington, CT) – Brian W. Preleski, New Britain State’s Attorney, announced today that the State of Connecticut is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Kelsey Mazzamaro’s killer or killers.  Ms. Mazzamaro, age 26, of Litchfield, was found slain in Burlington on May 6, 2018.

On that morning, Ms. Mazzamaro was found deceased by a passing motorist. Her death was subsequently determined to be a homicide.  At the time of her death, Ms. Mazzamaro had two young children.

“At some point, Kelsey’s children are going to want to know what happened to their mother,” State’s Attorney Preleski said. “Ultimately, we are asking for the public’s help in giving them an answer.”

Despite diligent investigative efforts by the Connecticut State Police, Ms. Mazzamaro’s murder remains unsolved.  In the hope of continuing to move this investigation forward, Gov. Ned Lamont has authorized a reward in the amount of $50,000 to any individual providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killer.

“We know that there are individuals with information pertaining to this investigation who have yet to come forward,” State’s Attorney Preleski said.

Ms. Mazzamaro was known to frequent the Waterbury and Torrington areas and investigators are asking that anyone with information concerning her whereabouts on May 5 or May 6 of 2018 contact authorities at (866) 623-8058.

“Conducting any complex investigation is like putting together a puzzle,” State’s Attorney Preleski said. “Individual pieces of the puzzle may have little meaning outside of their larger context but may ultimately be crucial in seeing the complete picture once the puzzle is put together.  There are individuals who have pieces of this puzzle and we would like to talk to them.  Even if you have information that you don’t think is particularly useful, please share it with us so we can put it into the larger context of the entire investigation.”

The New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office is grateful to Gov. Lamont for offering this reward and to members of the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad and the Cold Case Unit of the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney for their work and dedication to this investigation.
