FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Waterbury, CT) – Maureen T. Platt, Waterbury State’s Attorney, today announced that a jury in Waterbury Superior Court on September 7, 2023 found Henrique Sousa, age 29, of Waterbury, guilty of the crimes of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2) and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(1) and § 53-21(a)(2). The conviction stems from an assault on a child between the years of 2010 and 2013 at the Waterbury home of the child’s babysitter. Evidence at trial showed the defendant asked the child to perform a sex act on him inside the garage of the home. The victim reported the incident to police in 2017.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant State’s Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III and Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys Alexandra Arroyo and Jessica Grey.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 16, 2023 in Waterbury Superior Court.
