FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Milford, CT) – Margaret E. Kelley, Ansonia-Milford State’s Attorney, announced today that Charles Wallace, age 28, of Bridgeport, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended after five years to serve and 10 years of probation, on one count of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(3), and one count of Strangulation in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-64bb.
The Honorable Peter J. Brown sentenced Wallace during a July 25, 2023 hearing in Milford Superior Court after the defendant, who had no criminal record, pleaded guilty to those charges.
According to court records, the defendant sexually assaulted and strangled a 19-year-old student at the University of New Haven in West Haven in 2017. They had met on the dating app Tinder and he was invited to her home.
In addressing the defendant directly at sentencing, Judge Brown said the defendant’s actions were violent, disrespectful and degrading, and that the facts were troubling as the defendant would not listen to the victim nor stop his crime. Judge Brown further commented that the community needed to be protected from the defendant.
The case was investigated by the West Haven Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State's Attorney Mary SanAngelo.
