(Bridgeport, CT) – Fairfield State’s Attorney Joseph T. Corradino announced today that a jury in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 20, 2023 found David Shavers, age 28, of Norwalk, guilty of the crimes of Manslaughter in the First Degree with a Firearm in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § § 53a-55(a)(1) and 53a-55a, Attempted Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-59(a)(5), Criminal Possession of a Firearm in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217 and Commission of Felony with a Firearm in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-202k.
According to evidence at trial, the defendant, while driving on Sixth Street in Bridgeport on August 24, 2017, fired multiple gunshots into a group of men. Cadell Moore, age 34, of Bridgeport, who was working on his vehicle at the time of the shooting and was not an intended target, was hit by gunfire and died. Evidence showed the shooting stemmed from a dispute the defendant had with a group of men days before the fatal shooting. The jury relied on eyewitness testimony and there was a substantial amount of video evidence tying the defendant to the vehicle used in the shooting.
Shavers is scheduled for sentencing on September 15, 2023 in Superior Court in Bridgeport.
