(Bridgeport, CT) – Fairfield State’s Attorney Joseph T. Corradino announced today that on July 19, 2023, the Honorable Earl Richards sentenced Jordan Hinton to a total effective sentence of 40 years in prison for the 2017 fatal shooting of Deon Rodney, age 32, in Bridgeport.
A Superior Court jury in Bridgeport on May 19, 2023, found Hinton, age 35, of Bridgeport, guilty of Manslaughter with a Firearm in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-55a, Felony Murder 53a-54c, Attempted Robbery in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-134(a)(4) and Criminal Possession of a Firearm in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217(a)(1) and Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-35(a).
According to evidence at trial, Hinton burst into the Just Right Cutz barbershop on Park Avenue in Bridgeport on October 14, 2017 and fired a shot from a semiautomatic handgun. In an attempt to protect customers in the barbershop and children nearby, the owner of the barbershop, Deon Rodney, tackled the defendant and wrestled him to the ground. The victim was struck by gunfire during the fight and later died at the hospital.
The case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Michael DeJoseph.
