FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Waterbury, CT) - The Waterbury Judicial District State’s Attorney’s Office will host the third annual HOPE. Be Your Community Resource Fair in collaboration with the City of Waterbury and the Waterbury Police Department on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Waterbury City Hall, 235 Grand Street in Waterbury.
The resource fair, now an annual event due to its success in previous years, will again bring together a broad coalition of community advocates all similarly vested in the success of the communities the Waterbury courthouse serves, including the City of Waterbury and surrounding towns.
This resource fair is intended as a one-stop shop for local residents to receive free health screenings, free toiletry distribution, free gift cards to local eateries, children’s activities and information about education, employment, housing assistance, behavioral health, substance abuse, food pantry, re-entry, and many more community services. For many, these resources are vital to support their journey in personal growth and continued development.
Paralegal Specialist Ann Taylor, the creator and organizer of this annual event, said this year’s resource fair will include more than 50 tables for participants to visit.
“The fair has been successful and continues to grow because of the help and support of the staff at the Waterbury courthouse, sponsors, vendors and the City of Waterbury,” Paralegal Specialist Taylor said.
Paralegal Specialist Taylor said there will be a number of new information booths this year, including stations with representatives from the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Office of the State Comptroller’s “ArrayRx” prescription drug discount card program, the Yale Cancer Center and the Yale School of Medicine Community Health Care Van.
“The dedicated staff of the Waterbury State’s Attorney’s Office and our devoted partners in the community have worked together to make the past resource fairs so successful,” said Waterbury Judicial District State’s Attorney Maureen T. Platt, who serves as the chief law enforcement officer in the judicial district, which includes Waterbury and the communities of Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Southbury, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott and Woodbury.
“Engaging in outreach efforts like this shows that we truly care about the communities we serve and hope to make a difference in the lives of those we interact with every day,” State’s Attorney Platt said.
In the event of rain, the resource fair will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
