FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Hartford, CT) - Sharmese L. Walcott, Hartford Judicial District State’s Attorney, today announced that a Hartford Superior Court jury on July 1, 2024 found David Olivo, age 43, of the Unionville section of Farmington, guilty of two counts of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(1), one count of Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-73a(a)(1A), and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).
Evidence introduced at trial included the testimony of two minor victims who each reported to police in Farmington that they had been sexually assaulted by the defendant on separate occasions. One victim reported that on July 1, 2020, while at a sleepover party at the defendant’s home, the victim wanted to return home. The defendant offered to drive the victim home. During the trip home, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim. Additional testimony showed that on February 6, 2021, the defendant picked up a group of minors and brought them back to his home for another sleepover party. In the early morning hours of the next day, a second victim woke up and entered the kitchen for a drink. The defendant was in the kitchen during this time and sexually assaulted the victim.
“The bravery and commitment of the young victims who stood strong during their testimony to a jury made up of people they have never met is remarkable,” State’s Attorney Walcott said. “I thank the jury for their time, and I thank these young witnesses for their model of strength and courage.”
This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Danielle O’Connell and Certified Legal Intern Kevin Gaidos, with the assistance of Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Jesse Giddings, Inspectors Joseph Buyak and Luis Rodriguez, and Paralegal Specialist Kelly De La Cruz. The Honorable Kevin C. Doyle presided over the trial.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 4, 2024, in Hartford Superior Court.
