Derby Man Arraigned for Murder of Man Found Dead in Woodbridge Park on June 8, 2021

7/01/2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Haven, CT) - Patrick J. Griffin, New Haven State’s Attorney, announced that Jordan M. Rudel, age 24, of 199 Caroline Street, Derby, was arrested by warrant, and arraigned today by the Honorable Brian T. Fischer, on the charges of Felony Murder, Murder, and Robbery in the First Degree related to the death of Rondell Atkinson, age 33, of West Haven, on or about June 7, 2021. Bond was set in the amount of Two Million Dollars. The case has been transferred to Part A in New Haven, with the next court date scheduled for July 13, 2021.

Rondell Atkinson’s body was discovered by a jogger on June 8, 2021, on the sidewalk adjacent to Pease Road Playground in the Town of Woodbridge. Investigators determined that Atkinson had been shot multiple times and his car had been stolen.

State’s Attorney Griffin commended the investigative efforts of the Woodbridge Police Department and the State Police Central District Major Crimes Squad. At this time, the charges against Rudel are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
